I believe it is the effort put into the screening of this material that has lapsed in recent times. For example - the Grand Theft Auto series has (in my country) an R18 rating - cannot be purchased/rented by anyone under the age of 18. It is the (lack of) enforcement of these laws/rules that has seen children exposed to the material. Media of a violent/sexual nature has been available to people for years, in the form of Movies, art, literature and now games - just to name a few. I believe it is the effort put into the screening of this material that has lapsed in recent times.
For example - the Grand Theft Auto series has (in my country) an R18 rating - cannot be purchased/rented by anyone under the age of 18.

You suggested to check the music on their ipods... wouldn't even know how to work that one... even if I could get it pried away from his ear! I can hear the music he plays on the computer. I definitely had more control when he was younger & was very strict re movies and games etc he purchased. Unfortunately as with older teens with part time jobs & money they can buy these..whether we approve or not. The developers of these games have definitely tapped into a goldmine for themselves... but at what cost to our youth. All we can do is know we brought them up with values which is a greater influence on their lives. It is so true that our kids are influenced by the games they play and music they listen to.
